Anthrax Case 1

Imaging of Anthrax

Previously described imaging features of inhalational anthrax consist of mediastinal widening presumably secondary to lymphadenopathy and mediastinal edema. There are frequent bilateral pleural effusions.

54-year-old male who had an accidental laboratory exposure to anthrax. PA chest radiograph obtained after onset of symptoms demonstrates mediastinal widening. Note patchy opacities at the right lung base.
